Hi! I'm Alex Mont-Ros and I'm a dad to 8 children, some of whom are my own and some are stepchildren. I've been a dad for over 20 years, and it feels like time flies by! I'm also married to my best friend Lisa for almost 10 years now and madly in love with her. With all that said, I take being a great leader pretty seriously. Being a great leader for my family means I have to think about the things I do and how they affect my family. It takes work, but it's worth it because it helps my kids, my marriage, and how people will remember me later on.
One way to stay focused and lead as a parent is to have a plan and structure in place. A family meeting is a great tool for this because it helps everyone thrive if you do it right!
Yet, before our family meetings could be successful, we had to overcome some challenges. To have successful family meetings, we needed to make sure we did a few things well. This included planning for our meetings in advance and sticking to the plan. We also had to do the things we talked about in the meeting and stay accountable. It was also important to be consistent every week, so everyone knew what to expect.
Over the years, we used to have a lot of family meetings, but it was hard to stay organized. We had a lot of loose agendas and no real process. It was tough to stay focused and know what to do the following week after our family meeting was done.
The reason for family meetings was to communicate and make sure we're all on the same page, but we didn't feel like this was happening. It was also hard to stay consistent and finding time with everything else we had going on. And as our kids got older, it was even harder to keep meeting consistently because of all their extra time commitments they had. Something had to change and change quickly!
